How to Combine PDF Files (Free, No Signup)
Learn how to combine PDF files in your browser. No uploads, no accounts. Works on Windows, Mac, and mobile.
The short answer
Drag your PDF files into the tool, reorder them if needed, and click Merge. You get one combined PDF. Everything happens in your browser — the files never leave your device.
Why this matters: Most online PDF tools (iLovePDF, Smallpdf, Adobe Acrobat) upload your files to their servers. For contracts, invoices, IDs, or NDA — that's a risk. Our tool runs locally using JavaScript. The file stays on your computer.
Why most "free" PDF mergers aren't actually free
You've probably tried one of these:
- iLovePDF — limits file size, then asks for a subscription.
- Smallpdf — 2 free tasks per hour, then paywall.
- Adobe Acrobat Online — free trial, then $12.99/month.
- Sejda — 3 tasks per hour, then paid.
They all upload your file to a server. That's how they enforce limits — the file is on their machine, not yours.
Our tool works differently. No upload. No account. No limit. (The only limit is your browser's memory — usually several hundred megabytes per file.)
How to combine PDF files (3 steps)
Step 1: Open the tool
Go to PDF Merge & Split. No signup, no email.
Step 2: Drop your PDFs
Drag files into the zone, or click to browse. Multiple files supported — add as many as you need.
Step 3: Merge and download
Check the order (drag to reorder if needed), click Merge, and download the result. Done.
That's it. No "create account", no "verify email", no "upgrade to Pro".
But I'm on a Mac / iPhone / Android
Works everywhere. The tool runs in your browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. No installation.
- Mac: Safari or Chrome → open the page → drag files from Finder.
- Windows: Chrome or Edge → drag files from Explorer.
- iPhone / iPad: Safari → "Choose Files" → select from iCloud Drive or Files app.
- Android: Chrome → "Choose Files" → select from Downloads or Drive.
Same result on every device.
Is it safe for contracts and personal documents?
Yes — and this is the main reason people use it.
The tool never uploads your files. There is no server-side processing. When you close the tab, the file is gone from memory. Nothing is stored, logged, or sent anywhere.
This matters if you work with:
- Contracts and NDA — client confidentiality.
- Invoices and tax documents — financial data.
- Medical records — sensitive personal data.
- Passports and IDs — identity documents.
Most online tools can't say this. We can.
Common problems (and how to fix them)
The merged file is too large
PDF size depends on images inside. If your PDFs are scans, the merged file will be large. Try compressing before merging (or use lower-resolution scans).
Some pages are blank in the result
This usually means the source PDF is encrypted (password-protected). Remove the password first, then merge.
The order is wrong
Drag files in the list to reorder before clicking Merge. The order in the list is the order in the final PDF.
It doesn't work on my old browser
Requires a modern browser (Chrome 90+, Safari 14+, Firefox 88+). Update your browser — it's free.
Interesting facts about PDF
- The "Camelot" project. In 1991, Adobe co-founder John Warnock launched the project that became PDF. His goal: a document that looked the same on any screen, without depending on someone else's software.
- The taxman said yes. The US IRS started distributing tax forms as PDFs in 1994 — one of the first big adopters. Paper processing of 110 million returns was just too slow.
- Open standard? Not at first. Adobe released the PDF spec for free in 1993, but PDF only became a true ISO standard (ISO 32000) in 2008 — 17 years after it was born.
- PDF can contain 3D. Since PDF 1.6, you can embed interactive 3D models, video, and audio. Most readers still don't support it, but the format allows it.
FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes. No trial, no credit card, no hidden limits.
How many files can I merge at once?
No hard limit. Each file up to 200 MB. Practical limit is your browser's memory.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Files never leave your device.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly. Remove the password first (using the PDF owner's password), then merge.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after the first page load — everything is cached locally.
Can I split a PDF instead?
Yes. The same tool has a Split mode — enter page ranges (e.g. 1-3, 5, 7-9) and get separate PDFs (or a ZIP).
What about splitting, rotating, or deleting pages?
The same tool does all four:
- Merge — combine files into one.
- Split — extract page ranges into separate PDFs.
- Rotate — turn pages 90° / 180° / 270°.
- Delete — remove unwanted pages.
