About this tool
JSON to YAML Converter is a free online tool that converts between JSON and YAML in both directions. It auto-detects the input format, validates the syntax, and highlights errors with line and column numbers. Everything runs locally in your browser.
How it works
1
Paste JSON or YAML
Type or paste your data in the left panel. The tool auto-detects whether it is JSON or YAML.
2
Get the converted result
The right panel shows the converted output instantly. Switch direction manually if auto-detect is wrong.
3
Copy or download
Copy the result to clipboard or download as a .json / .yaml file.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between JSON and YAML? v
JSON is a strict, machine-friendly data format with braces and quotes. YAML is a human-friendly format using indentation, often used for config files (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD). YAML supports comments and is more compact for nested structures.
Is my data sent to a server? v
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser using the js-yaml library. Your data never leaves your device.
Does it support anchors and comments in YAML? v
Anchors (&), aliases (*), and merge keys (<<) are supported. Comments (#) are preserved when converting YAML → YAML, but lost when converting YAML → JSON (JSON has no comment syntax).
What if auto-detect gets the format wrong? v
Use the direction toggle above the panels to force JSON → YAML or YAML → JSON manually.
